AS Roma 2 – 0 Eintracht Frankfurt
44′ Angeliño
69′ Eldor Shomurodov
🏆👉 Roma defeated Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, 30 January 2025, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. Roma secured a 2-0 victory in their final and crucial match of the first round of the Europa League, with goals from Angelino and Shomurodov. This win allows Roma to advance to the Europa League play-offs, but they will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon’s draw to learn who their opponents will be.
The Giallorossi opened the scoring just before halftime, with Mancini delivering a cross from the right flank to Angelino, who was positioned on the opposite side of the box. The Spanish winger struck the ball perfectly, leaving Trapp with no chance. In the second half, Roma maintained their dominance, sealing the match midway through the half with a play involving the two substitutes: Soulé set up Shomurodov, who managed to outpace the German goalkeeper to finish the game.
The thrill on Eldor Shomurodov’s face was unmistakable as he scored in the 69th minute, extending Roma’s lead to 2-0. He struck the ball with his right foot from the center of the box, directing it into the bottom left corner after a quick break. Soulé delivered a delicate pass that floated over the defense, allowing Shomurodov to make his move. Even though he initially missed the chance to shoot, he stayed determined and managed to beat Trapp to the ball, securing the goal.
Stats before the game
Roma has managed to secure victory in only three out of their last 14 encounters with German teams across all competitions, recording five draws and six losses. This match will mark their inaugural clash with Eintracht Frankfurt. On the other hand, Eintracht Frankfurt has faced defeat in their last two matches against Italian teams, both of which were against Napoli in the 2022/23 Champions League. This matches the number of losses they experienced in their first 11 games against Italian sides, where they achieved six wins and three draws.
Notably, Roma has only lost three of their last 45 home matches in major European tournaments, boasting 33 wins and nine draws, while keeping a clean sheet in over half of those games (25 out of 45).
