AS Roma Primavera end Canadian tour with victory

Roma Primavera’s tour of Canada has come to an end, with Alberto De Rossi’s young Giallorossi scheduled to land in Italy early this afternoon.

The Giallorossi contested their second friendly of the Canadian tour on Friday evening, beating Detroit-based Vardar Academy U18s by four goals to nil. There were two goals either side of half-time for De Rossi’s youngsters, with Edoardo Soleri opening the scoring on 24 minutes. Francesco Di Mariano made it 2-0 five minutes before half-time, while new arrival Sadiq Umar added a third on 77 minutes. Emanuele Spinozzi completed the 4-0 win two minutes from time.

The Roma players were wearing black armbands as a mark of respect after the passing of Francesco Trancanelli, former youth academy director at the club. Meanwhile, there was a surprise before the match as president James Pallotta came to wish De Rossi and his players good luck at the team hotel.

As well as their daily practice sessions as the Kia Training Ground, the Giallorossi have also been able to enjoy Toronto and its surrounding area. They even got the chance to visit Niagara Falls on Wednesday July 29.

The tour will provide invaluable international experience for the Primavera, who have visited Vietnam, South Africa and the United States in previous years. Of course, De Rossi’s youngsters had a great European run last season in the UEFA Youth League, reaching the prestigious semi-final stage after beating some of the continent’s best youth sides.

The Primavera will now continue their preparation for the 2015-16 season with a training camp in Vigo Rendena, starting on Wednesday August 5. Follow asroma.it for updates and news!
