AS Roma appointed the former Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi as the new coach until the end of the season (June 30, 2024) on Tuesday 16 January 2024 after sacking coach José Mourinho.  Roma are down in the 9th position with only 29 points compared to Inter in the 1st position with 51 points. De Rossi played 18 years for Roma between 2001 and 2019. De Rossi made 616 appearances in all competitions for Roma.  De Rossi was capped 117 times for the Italian National team scoring 21 goals.

The question is whether De Rossi has “an effective strategy” to help Roma.  De Rossi made over 600 appearances with Roma.  The fact is that De Rossi has very limited coaching experience.  De Rossi’s experience includes coaching Serie B team SPAL, who sacked him on 14 February 2023, after only 3 wins in 16 games.   De Rossi previously worked as an Assistant Coach on Roberto Mancini’s Italy team which won the 2020 European Championships.  The point is that a pure heart is not enough. Nevertheless, let’s wish De Rossi the best of luck to help the Giallorossi.
