AS Roma have won 9 Coppa Italia.   Target is to win the 10th Coppa Italia.  An agonizing victory in extra time after Empoli equalized in the 80th minute.  Roma defeat Empoli thanks to the goal by midfielder Daniele De Rossi in the 114th minute qualifying to the Coppa Italia Quarterfinal. Roma have made it to the final 17 times.

It’s a quick start for the Roman gladiators opening the score in the 5th minute.   The action starting with defender Maicon with a cross , then a deviation and it is forward Juan Iturbe to defeat Empoli goalkeeper Seppe  with a right footed shot.

Things complicating for Roma making the first forced substitution in the 24th minute.  Defender Ashely Cole obviously injured is replaced by defender José  Holebas.

The first half ending with Empoli risking an own goal in the 44th minute after Bianchetti deviates the ball.

Empoli making the first substitution in the 52nd minute replacing defender Vincent Laurini with defender Elseid Hysaj.

Referee Di Bello giving a yellow card to Empoli defender Matteo Bianchetti after a foul on Roma defender Holebas.

Second substitution for Empoli in the 56th minute replacing midfielder Riccardo Saponara with midfielder Piotr Zielinski.

AS Roma making a substitution in the 67th minute replacing forward Francesco Totti with forward Adem Ljajic.

Empoli making the last substitution in the 68th minute replacing forward Massimo Maccarone with forward Simone Verdi.

Game going to extra time.  Shocking move by Empoli!  Referee Di Bello giving a penalty to AS Roma in the 113th minute conceded by Empoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski.  Two yellow cards for Empoli to Vecino and Zielinski.  It is Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi to convert the penalty frustrating Empoli while Roma fans celebrate at the Olimpico the qualification.
