UEFA announcing the match officials for the Champions League Play-offs, first leg, FC Porto vs AS Roma on Wednesday 17 August 2016 at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto, Portugal at 20:45.    It is Referee Björn Kuipers from Netherlands to direct the match. Kuipers will be assisted by Sander van Roekel and Erwin Zeinstra, with Charles Schaap the fourth official.

Referee: Björn Kuipers (NED)
Assistant referee: Sander van Roekel (NED) , Erwin Zeinstra (NED)
Additional assistant referee: Pol van Boekel (NED) , Richard Liesveld (NED)
Fourth official: Charles Schaap (NED)
UEFA Delegate: Mark Blackbourne (ENG)
UEFA Referee observer: William Young (SCO)

  • Kuipers has refereed AS Roma three times in the Champions League. The first match was Roma’s 3-2 win away at Basel on 3 November 2010 in the group stage of the 2010-11 competition, with goals by Jeremy Menez, Francesco Totti and Leandro Greco.  Kuipers’ second game in charge of Roma was the 1-1 draw away at Manchester City on 30 September 2014, also in the group stages.  Interesting fact, Francesco Totti’s goal meant he became the oldest player ever to score in the Champions League.  The third match Roma 1-1 Barcelona on 16 September 2015.
