Roma will play Palermo for the 64th time in Serie A, this Sunday, October 4 (kick-off 15:00, 9:00 Eastern). The sides have met previously on five occasions in the month of October and they can’t be separated.
Matches between Roma and Palermo in the tenth month of the year have all come in the league. Each of the teams has won once, while the remaining three games ended in ties.
They first met in October back in 1949, when Palermo won comfortably 3-0 at home, while the most recent match-up in the fall came in 2011 when, on October 23, Erik Lamela marked his Giallorossi debut with a goal at the Olimpico to secure victory for Luis Enrique’s side.
In the midst of all that, three matches ended 1-1. The first two occurred in 1952 and 1959, with the former at the Barbera and the latter in the capital. The third of those 1-1 draws came in 2004, the year the Sicilian team returned to Serie A after 31 years away. Totti scored a penalty to cancel out Fabio Grosso’s goal for the Rosanero.
On Sunday at 15:00 we’ll see whether this trend continues. We’ll let the players decide…
