The Viola U19s saw their bid to claim the Primavera championship halted by Torino in the semi-finals last night after battling valiantly with ten men for the whole of the second half and extra time. Petriccione gave Federico Guidi’s side an 18th-minute lead with a brilliant free kick before Papini saw red following a second yellow card shortly before the break. Morra then turned the tables with two second-half strikes for Torino but Minelli equalised to send the tie to extra time, when Morra snatched what proved to be the winner with a goal that may have been offside: 3-2 the final score. Despite the disappointing result, it was nonetheless an excellent performance by the Viola Primavera and wraps up a season that saw them dominate their group playing an attractive, attacking brand of football.
