What a disappointing outcome for Lazio as they fell to Fiorentina in the Serie A Week 22 match on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium. Fiorentina not only took the victory but also secured three crucial points. However, it’s not all doom and gloom for Lazio, as they still hold onto 4th place with 39 points. Fiorentina, on the other hand, climbed to 6th place with 36 points, tying with Juventus.
Fiorentina took the lead in the first half with goals from Yacine Adli and Lucas Beltrán. The second half saw Lazio dominating possession, desperately seeking a glimmer of hope. Tensions flared, leading to both coaches being sent off by Referee Rapuano. In stoppage time, Marusic managed to score with a header from a Hyasj assist. Just as the match was about to end, Pedro hit the post in the 98th minute, leaving the home crowd in stunned silence!
A stunning moment at the Olimpico! Fiorentina takes the lead in the 11th minute as Yacine Adli scores with a precise right-footed shot into the bottom right corner, thanks to an assist from Robin Gosens. Marusic made a careless mistake, losing the ball, which Beltràn quickly passed to Gosens on the left. Gosens delivered a perfect cross for Adli’s volley, leaving Lazio’s goalkeeper Ivan Provedel with no chance!

✅ Stats before the game:
Fiorentina has secured victories in their last two league matches against Lazio, winning 2-1 in both February and September 2024 at the Franchi. The last time the Viola managed to achieve more consecutive wins against the Biancocelesti in Serie A was between December 2006 and March 2008, when they won four times in a row.
Following their 2-1 win in the first leg on September 22, Fiorentina has the chance to win both league encounters against Lazio this season for the first time since the 2012/13 season, when Vincenzo Montella was the coach.
On the other hand, Lazio remains unbeaten in their last eight home league games against Fiorentina, with six wins and two draws. The last time the Viola triumphed away against the Biancocelesti was on May 15, 2016, when they won 4-2 under coach Paulo Sousa.
Lazio secured a victory in their most recent league match against Hellas Verona, but they haven’t managed to achieve back-to-back wins in Serie A since last October-November, when they won five in a row. They have drawn their last two home matches against Atalanta and Como, and if they draw again, it will mark their first time with three consecutive home draws in Serie A since the stretch from May to September 2007, during Delio Rossi’s management.
On the other hand, Fiorentina is struggling, having not won any of their last six league matches (with two draws and four losses). This is their longest winless streak in Serie A since November to December 2020, when they went eight matches without a victory.
