Fiorentina boss Beppe Iachini heaped praise on his side after they blew Lecce away with three first-half goals at the Stadio Via del Mare on Wednesday night.

Iachini hailed the way the Viola approached what was a crucial game for his side.

“We had to approach it the right way and we came here and showed personality, started strong and tried to put our stamp on the game,” he said. “We showed good intensity and aggression, played high up the field and laid the groundwork for us to go on and win the game.”

The Fiorentina boss was clearly pleased with his side’s performance in front of goal after a run of games in which Fiorentina have struggled to find the net.

“We haven’t scored many goals despite creating a lot of chances,” he said. “We’re one of the Serie A teams that has had the most shots and created the most chances. We’ve hit the woodwork five times in six games. That could have given us a few more points, which we would have deserved on account of the way we’ve been working and our compactness and determination. Sadly we’ve not got those points but we came here knowing that it was going to be a difficult game – Lecce beat Lazio and they’re a well-organised team with good individual players.”

Iachini was also keen to underline the difficulties endured by his squad due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“Unfortunately nobody talks about the fact that Fiorentina were one of the worst-affected teams in terms of coronavirus,” he said. “The whole group was stuck not just at home but in bed, so it was to be expected that we might have a few more issues than other teams in the first few games back.”
