AC MILAN YOUTH TEAM SET FOR VIAREGGIO CUP

 

The prestigious tournament begins on Monday.

MILAN – The kings of the Viareggio Cup AC Milan will be taking part for the 66th time at the prestigious youth tournament which gets underway on Monday.

No club has won the competition as many times as the Rossoneri who lay claim to 9 triumphs: 1949, 1952, 1953, 1957, 1959, 1960, 1999, 2001 and 2014. What’s more, the Milan youth team have finished as runners-up on 7 occasions: 1956, 1970, 1971, 1976, 1977, 1993 and 2013. 

The Rossoneri have played a total of 268 matches at the Viareggio Cup, winning 150, drawing 62 and losing 56. Milan have fired in 477 goals and conceded 235. The team’s biggest win meanwhile came in the 2008 edition of the tournament in a 9-0 victory over Malaysian Indian.

Focusing on the present and the 2016 edition, the Rossoneri have been drawn in a group with Ascoli, Cagliari and Ujana (Congo). Cristian Brocchi’s team will take on Ascoli in their first match on Tuesday.
