🏆 👉 AC Milan debut with a draw in the Champions League Group Stage – Group E Matchday 1 game against Salzburg on Tuesday 6 September 2022 at the Stadion Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria.   Milan faced the reigning Austrian champions. Noah Okafor breaks the deadlock in the 28th minute, and Saelemaekers scored the equalizer in the 40th minute with an assist from Leao.  Saelemaekers has scored his first-ever goal in the Champions League on his 7th appearance in the competition.   In the second half an opportunity for Fernando, in full recovery in the 94th minute post hit by Leao.

In the next round, AC Milan will play at home with Dinamo Zagreb.

After seven seasons of absence from the UEFA Champions League, AC Milan participate in the tournament for the second consecutive season. Last season, Milan were eliminated from the group stage, which had not happened since 1999/00. Stats showing Salzburg have crossed paths with AC Milan twice so far in Europe, and twice they have been defeated: both in the group stage of the 1994/95 Champions League, with an overall aggregate of 4-0 to a Rossoneri side led by Fabio Capello.

Salzburg opened the score in the 28th minute. Noah Okafor defeated AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a right-footed shot passing through the legs of Maignan to the center. The assist is by Fernando.

AC Milan equalized for the 1-1 in the 40th minute. Alexis Saelemaekers defeated Salzburg goalkeeper Philipp Köhn with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Rafael Leão.

Stats before the game: This is the third European meeting between Salzburg and AC Milan, with AC Milan winning both previous two in the 1994/95 UEFA Champions League group stage on their way to the final. Milan have lost just one of their 11 previous games against Austrian clubs in major European competitions (8W, 2N), a 2-5 defeat to SK Rapid Vienna in the 1957/58 European Cup. Milan have won all of their last five European games against Austrian sides with an aggregate score of 16-2, beating FK Austria Vienna 5-1 in the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League in the last meeting. No Austrian team has ever beaten an Italian opponent in the UEFA Champions League in the previous 10 (2D, 8L). Salzburg are in their fifth season of the UEFA Champions League, including all of the last four of the competition. The Austrian side made it through the group stage for the first time last season before being eliminated in the round of 16 by Bayern Munich.
