AC MILA TONIGHT’S POST-MATCH REACTION LOSING TO ROMA

The interviews after Milan-Roma.

MILAN – The interviews in the wake of the match with Roma:

CRISTIAN BROCCHI
“We need to have that extra bite for matches of this type of level. Roma at this moment in time are clearly superior to us and they are an established side. When you take on a team like this you need to have determination and a never say die spirit. I was disappointed to see mistakes, little aggression and not enough help from team-mates. There is little to say about Mexes in terms of his character, he brings personality, he never gives in and it would be good to see this kind of attitude and fight from every member of the squad. We hope we can get Abate and Antonelli back from injury. We tried Romagnoli out tonight as a left back ahead of the cup final to give us another option. We knew he wouldn’t be able to give us much gong forwards, but I think he had a good game and he was not the problem. I am taking into account the partnership between Bacca-Luiz Adriano just like I am considering others. Luiz Adriano has always shown himself ready to give the team a hand and played with the right approach. Today he also had a good impact. I have always given everything. I won’t get down and I will keep believing right until the end.”

CHRISTIAN ABBIATI
“I thought I would get more emotional, but I kept it all in. I will keep thanking the fans, the club, President Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani for the rest of my life for all the wonderful moments I have enjoyed, with a host of great stars, we won everything. It’s a shame to say goodbye after a defeat like this. I wanted to thank the fans who waited to say goodbye to me. The save that will mean the most to me was the one in the derby in the Champions League in 2003 which we went on to win. Donnarumma doesn’t need me, he is a great lad, he has a sensible head on his shoulders. He has great abilities and he will keep performing well for many years. My role models were Maldini, Costacurta and Albertini and I still remember what they taught me. The mental approach is what will matter most for the final. It’s a one-off game and we can have our say, providing we don’t play with the attitude we showed tonight.”

MANUEL LOCATELLI
“To make my full debut tonight was fantastic. I prepared as best as possible and making my first start against a team like Roma is something that I will remember for the rest of my life. Today however I unfortunately made a few mistakes that I should not have made, but I will get better, and overall I think I produced a good performance. The cup final is a one-off match and anything can happen. We will go into the match prepared and in the best shape possible. I was moved at the end because Abbiati is a great man. He doesn’t say much, but when he does it counts. I am very happy to have shared this night with him.”

CRISTIAN BROCCHI (press conference)
“I am the coach and I will take responsibility. It’s down to me to see who I can rely on or not. Since I have been appointed, a lot of things have been said, I take it all in my stride, the good and the less positive things. I have a clear idea of the situation, we will play the cup final and then we shall see what happens. If a positive decision is made towards me, then I am certain that by changing certain aspects we can do a great job. If a different decision is made then I will be grateful regardless to who has given me this chance to enjoy this experience which will be very useful for my career. Milan must do more, next week’s match is far too important, every player must find that bit more from inside, otherwise it will be tough. Calabria is someone who can be relied upon and that applies to De Sciglio too. Abate and Antonelli unfortunately aren’t available at the moment and we will have to assess their fitness. With that in mind, I am trying to see who I can play in their place. This team can do well but each player must go into the match with the right approach and with the confidence of reaching their goals. I am expecting more from the group. We have to play as a team because otherwise we will struggle. Niang has been following a recovery programme and he has been training with the team for the past few days. He hasn’t got the fitness or the pace to play a full 90 minutes. We will monitor his fitness during the week. He is ready to train again and we hope to have him available for the game. I hope we go into the final with as many players as possible hungry to win.”
