A major showdown between Napoli and AC Milan. Napoli won the Serie A Week 30 match on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples, Italy. The race for the Scudetto is intensifying! Napoli claimed three points after defeating Milan 2-1. They dominated the first half, scoring two goals, while Milan showed some fight in the second half but failed to convert a penalty by Santiago Gimenez. Luka Jovic did score a goal for Milan, but it wasn’t enough to level the match. Napoli now sits at 64 points, just behind Inter with 67 points, while Milan stays in 9th place with 47 points.
Every point is crucial for the Rossoneri if they aspire to qualify for European competition next season. The clock is ticking.
In a swift start, Napoli took the lead in the 2nd minute when Matteo Politano scored with a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner, thanks to an assist from Giovanni Di Lorenzo. The Milan defense was breached by the winger’s clever movement, and his powerful shot left Maignan with no chance to make a save.

Milan is in serious trouble! In the 19th minute, Romelu Lukaku found the back of the net with a left-footed shot aimed at the center. The assist came from Billy Gilmour. This goal is particularly significant as it marks Lukaku’s 400th professional goal! Milan’s careless turnover allowed the Neapolitans to capitalize, with Gilmour setting up the striker in the box. Even though Lukaku’s shot wasn’t perfect, he managed to get it past Maignan. The score is now Napoli 2, Milan 0.

It wasn’t a great day for Milan. In the 69th minute, Santiago Giménez missed a penalty for @acmilan, as his left-footed attempt was saved by goalkeeper Alex Meret, who dove to the bottom right corner. The penalty was awarded after Philip Billing fouled Theo Hernández in the box.

Stats before the game
The last 12 Serie A encounters between Napoli and Milan have resulted in a perfect tie, with each team securing four victories and four draws. Prior to this, the Azzurri had an impressive record against the Rossoneri, remaining unbeaten in their last eight league matches, winning six of them.
Milan has not lost in their last six away games against Napoli across all competitions, recording three wins and three draws. Remarkably, they have never achieved seven consecutive away matches without defeat against the Azzurri in their entire history. As Napoli (61 points) prepares to face Milan (47 points), they hold a 14-point lead over their rivals. In the history of their top-flight encounters, the Azzurri have only faced the Rossoneri with a greater points advantage on three occasions: +15 on February 8, 2014, +25 on April 15, 2018, and +23 on April 2, 2023.

Napoli has faced more defeats against Roma (nine) than against Milan (eight, the same as against Inter) since returning from the national team break. In total, the Azzurri and the Rossoneri have clashed 18 times in these matches, resulting in five wins for Napoli, five draws, and eight victories for Milan.
Since early February, Napoli has struggled, remaining winless in six out of their last seven Serie A matches (5 draws, 1 loss). This is one more match without a win than they had in the first 22 games of the season (2 draws, 3 losses).
Additionally, with just eight points gained since the start of the 23rd matchday, Napoli currently ranks as the 13th best team in the league. Meanwhile, Milan has accumulated 47 points over 29 matchdays this season. Since Serie A expanded to 20 teams in 2004/05, only one team, Sampdoria in 2009/10, has finished in the top four after earning a maximum of 47 points with nine games left. Following their comeback wins against Lecce (3-2) and Como (2-1), Milan is aiming to secure three consecutive victories in Serie A for the first time since last September, when they achieved wins against Venezia, Inter, and Lecce under Paulo Fonseca’s management.
Player Stats
Romelu Lukaku has been a key player since his Serie A debut in the 2019/20 season, participating in eight goals (6 goals and 2 assists) in 818 minutes against Milan in all competitions, which translates to one goal or assist every 102 minutes. Among players in the top five European leagues, only Lautaro Martínez has been involved in more goals against the Rossoneri during this time, with 10 contributions, but he has played 621 additional minutes compared to Lukaku, resulting in one contribution every 144 minutes.
Since arriving at the Rossoneri last season, Christian Pulisic has tallied 30 goals and 17 assists, making him one of just two Serie A players to reach at least 30 goals and 15 assists across all competitions, alongside Ademola Lookman, who boasts 35 goals and 15 assists.
