🏆👉 Bayer Leverkusen defeated AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the Bay Arena of Leverkusen in Germany.  What a heartbreaking loss for the Rossoneri! Bayer Leverkusen now sits at 6 points, having won all their matches without letting in a single goal. Meanwhile, Milan is still searching for their first point. What a nightmare!

In a match that had two distinct halves, Bayer Leverkusen took control early on, scoring through Boniface. After that, Milan started to push forward and had several chances, even hitting the crossbar with a shot from Theo Hernandez. In the closing moments, the Rossoneri kept pressing but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

The game marks a historic face-off between the two sides. Bayer Leverkusen, the German champions and last season’s Europa League runners-up, has only faced defeat twice in the past year, losing to Atalanta and Leipzig in the league.

After a successful run of three wins in the league, Milan is determined to bounce back in the Champions League following their 1-3 loss to Liverpool in their first match at home. This is Milan’s 21st UEFA Champions League campaign; only in 2021/22 have they lost both of their first two games of a single campaign of the competition, their first coming against Liverpool in that season.

It wasn’t the best beginning. In the 51st minute, Victor Boniface found the net for Bayer Leverkusen with a close-range left-footed shot that went into the bottom left corner.

✅  Stats before the game

Bayer Leverkusen and Milan have never met before in European competition. In their previous 12 meetings with Italian opposition in the UEFA Champions League, Leverkusen have won just two (D4 L6) and have lost their last three in a row.

Milan have lost just one of their last eight games against German opposition in the UEFA Champions League (W3 D4), although that came in their most recent encounter, a 3-1 defeat against last season’s finalists Borussia Dortmund in November 2023.

Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last nine home games in major European competition (W6 D3) and have never gone ten consecutive home games without defeat.

Milan have won their first away game in the Champions League in only one of their last seven previous campaigns (D5 L1), failing to do so in any of their last four (D1), since beating Zenit St Petersburg in 2012/13 (3-2).

After Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-0 win over Feyenoord in their last game, the German club could win their first two UEFA Champions League games of the season for the first time since 2001/02, when they reached the final (1-2 defeat to Real Madrid).

Christian Pulisic has scored in each of his last two Champions League appearances for Milan (two goals) and could become the first American player to score in three consecutive appearances in the competition.
