👉 It’s a tough setback for AC Milan, as they seem to be waving goodbye to their Scudetto hopes. On Friday, December 6, 2024, Atalanta triumphed over Milan in the Serie A Week 15 match held at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy. This victory marks Atalanta’s ninth straight win across both the league and the Champions League, temporarily placing them at the top of the standings. They now lead Napoli by two points, who are set to face Lazio tomorrow at the Stadio Maradona.

Milan’s impressive run of eight consecutive positive results has come to an end, leaving them four points behind Juventus. They could find themselves either matched or surpassed by Bologna, who are up against the Bianconeri tomorrow.

This marks the first time in their history that Atalanta has accumulated over 30 points after 14 Serie A matches, based on the three-point win system. Additionally, the team from Bergamo has achieved an impressive eight consecutive victories, matching their previous record of nine straight wins from February to July 2020.

Atalanta struck first in the 12th minute when Charles De Ketelaere found the net with a close-range header into the bottom right corner. Marten de Roon provided the assist, delivering a precise free kick from the side that reached the Belgian at the far post. De Ketelaere outjumped the defenders to score and put the Nerazzurri ahead.

AC Milan responded quickly, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 22nd minute. Álvaro Morata found the back of the net from close range with a right-footed shot. The setup came from Rafael Leão, who received a vertical pass from Theo Hernandez, evaded Djimsiti, and delivered a low cross to the far post, allowing Morata to tap in the equalizer for the Rossoneri.

In the 87th minute, Atalanta reclaimed the lead when Ademola Lookman found the net with a header aimed at the center. Sead Kolasinac provided the assist after a corner was given away by Mike Maignan. It all started with a corner from Samardzic, followed by Kolasinac’s header, and then Lookman scored with a close-range header, putting the Nerazzurri back in front.

Stats before the game

Atalanta and Milan have faced each other 126 times in Serie A, resulting in 45 draws, 26 wins for Atalanta, and 55 victories for Milan. The Bergamo side has notched up more draws against any other team in the league, matching their 45 draws with Juventus.

Since the 2020/21 season, Milan has triumphed in four out of their eight encounters with Atalanta, recording 2 draws and 2 losses. During this period, Atalanta has only lost more matches to Inter (six) and Napoli (five).

The last time Atalanta played Milan at the Gewiss Stadium, they secured a 3-2 victory on December 9, 2023. Interestingly, they have only managed to achieve back-to-back home wins against the Rossoneri once in Serie A, which was between November 2006 and January 2008.

Milan has managed to keep a clean sheet in six out of their last ten league matches, including two shutouts in their latest games. However, the Rossoneri haven’t recorded three consecutive clean sheets in Serie A since February 2023, when they achieved this feat against Atalanta.

This season, Milan has only secured two victories in their six away matches (with two draws and two losses), which could mark the first time since the 2018/19 season that they finish their first seven away games with so few wins (W2 D3 L2). In the league, Atalanta leads in headed goals scored, netting six, which is the same as Udinese. Additionally, the Bergamo side has yet to concede a headed goal in the 2024/25 Serie A season, just like Napoli and Udinese.
