ON THIS DAY: SACCHI’S MILAN WIN FIRST HOME MATCH OF THE SEASON

< ![CDATA[MILAN – On this day in 1988, the rossoneri led by coach Sacchi, made their home debut in Serie A at the San Siro for the 1988/1989 season. Fiorentina were the opponents and the Italian Champions made light work of the Tuscans cruising to a 4-0 victory. Pietro Paolo Virdis was the star man netting a hat-trick after Roberto Donadoni broke the deadlock. At the end of that season Sacchi’s players would win the club’s third European Cup in the final played in Barcelona against Steaua Bucharest. The rossoneri would also win the 1989 Italian Super Cup by beating Sampdoria 3-1.]]>
