< ![CDATA[MILAN – On the 18th of October 1989, Milan faced Real Madrid at the San Siro in the last-16 of the European Cup. The Spanish giants were led by Toshack at the time and had already been defeated the season before in the semi-final. Once again the rossoneri came out on top, winning 2-0. The goals that day were scored by Rijkaard and a Van Basten penalty. In the return leg, Butragueno’s goal turned out to be insignificant and Milan marched on towards the final. On the 23rd of May 1990, Milan won the European Cup for the second successive year beating Benfica coached by Sven Goran Eriksson in the final.]]>
