MILAN – On this day 57 years ago, the 8th of May 1958, Milan lost 2-1 away to Manchester United in the first leg of the European Cup semi-finals. The English giants had recently suffered the tragedy of the Munich Air Disaster. In the return leg at the San Siro, Milan ran out 4-0 winners and booked their place in the final.

On this day in 1968 meanwhile, Milan played out a goalless draw against Bayern Munich away from home and qualified for the final of the Cup Winners’ Cup. Milan would go on to win the trophy against Hamburg in the final.
