Mazara del Vallo, Javier Zanetti wins 2014 Oscar dello Sport

MILAN – Following recent winners including Cesare Prandelli, Giancarlo Abete and Massimo Moratti, another footballing great will be the guest of honour at the Oscar dello Sport in Mazara del Vallo. At 21:00 tomorrow night, Monday 25 August 2014, Inter vice president Javier Zanetti will be recognised, a man loved and respected on and off the field, and not just by Nerazzurri fans.

Zanetti, who last year recorded a video message for the Oscars, on this occasion will be in Mazara to collect the award for ‘the incredible example he showed to young people over the course of his long and prestigious career as a footballer’ but also to promote the PUPI Foundation with his wife Paula. The Zanettis will talk about the work done by the non-profit organisation they set up which has been helping children and young people in need for many years.

Javier Zanetti’s presence will bolster the 2014 Oscar dello Sport. The event is promoted by the Mayor of Mazara del Vallo, Nicola Crisaldi and organised by Roberto Oddo’s (host for the evening) Videaset with the help of Pietro Ingargiola, the former deputy mayor for sport in Mazara, who is now the president of the sporting advisory committee.

Besides Javier Zanetti, the following the figures will pick up awards: referees chief Domenico Messina (services to refereeing), volleyball world champion Andrea Lucchetta, and president of the Sicily branch of the Italian National Olympic Committee and former national secretary of the Italian Confederation of Workers’ Trade Unions Sergio D’Antoni. Other winners include Trapani coach Roberto Boscaglia (Serie B coach of the year), Veronica Floreno (paralympic athlete of the year) and Rai Sport journalist Alessandro Antinelli (sports journalist of the year).
