On Etwoo.it – an Italian site dedicated to charity auctions – a special event had been organised for collectors of sport memorabilia because the item up for auction was a No.6 shirt once worn by the historic Milan captain, Franco Baresi.
The highest bidder was Anwar, who had the pleasure of meeting his idol in the Trophy Room of the Mondo Milan museum in the Rossoneri’s new HQ, Casa Milan, when he received the shirt, especially framed for the occasion.
The match jersey, worn in a game that also saw Maldini, Costacurta, and Tassotti in action, still has the indelible signs left on from the pitch, as well as the number 6, the squad number Milan retired once Baresi had hung up his boots.
The proceeds from the auction have been donated to Milan Foundation to finance the Sport is Education project, a programme to promote collaboration between the world of school and the world of sport with the aim of rendering sport an essential element in the development of a person.
The iniative was organised with the La Strada Association, Milano and La Tenda Association, Napoli. In the Sport is Education project, the sporting activity is managed directly by Milan Foundation at the Vismara sports complex – the home of AC Milan’s youth sector, which contributes to develop in the youngsters who frequent there knowledge of their own body and the benefits that it can bring to the quality of life.
