The football community mourns the death of former AC Milan and Bologna Coach Sinisa Mihajlović who died at the age of 53 on Friday 16 December 2022 following a long battle with leukemia.  Mihajlović first announced he had leukemia in 2019.  He was successfully treated but was diagnosed with the illness for the second time in March 2022.

Our deepest condolence to the family of Sinisa Mihajlović.  President Lorenzo Casini, Chief Executive Officer Luigi De Siervo, and the entire Lega Serie A gather around Mihajlović’s family to express their deepest condolences.

Mihajlović won Serie A  Scudetto as a player with Lazio and Inter Milan and also played for AS Roma and Sampdoria.

The ex-Yugoslavia defender, who won the European Cup with Red Star Belgrade as a player in 1991.  Mihajlović won 63 international caps between 1991 and 2003, representing the former Yugoslavia at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

Sinisa’s career in Italy began in 1992 with AS Roma. In July 1994 he was bought by Sampdoria and collected 110 appearances and 12 goals, establishing himself as a specialist in goals from free kicks.  In 1998, Mihajlović moved permanently to Lazio, with whom he won a Scudetto (2000), two Italian Super Cups (1998 and 2000), a UEFA Super Cup (1999), a Cup Winners’ Cup (1999) and two Italian Cups (2000 and 2004 ).

From 2004 to 2006, Mihajlović played for Inter winning two Italian Cups in 2005 and 2006, and a Scudetto  in 2006.

After his career as a footballer ended, Mihajlović began on the bench as an assistant coach at Inter together with Coach Roberto Mancini, earning two Scudetti in 2007 and 2008 and an Italian Super Cup (2006).

In 2008,  Mihajlović accepted the offer of Bologna, then followed the benches of Catania, Fiorentina, the Serbian national team, and Sampdoria. In the 2015/2016 season, Mihajlović became AC Milan coach reaching the Italian Cup Final.  Mihajlović, then, went to coach Torino and returned to Bologna after 10 years.
