42′ Youssef En-Nesyri
🏆 👉 Morocco making history winning the FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals on Saturday 10 December 2022 at the Al Thumama Stadium in Al Thumama, Qatar. The hero is Youssef En-Nesyri scoring the only goal of the match and enough to secure the victory and the pass to the Semifinals. Sadly, not even the entry of Cristiano Ronaldo helped Portugal find an equalizer, and the party started for Morocco. Coach Regragui wrote history, however it goes. Party is for Morocco, another feat of Regragui’s team that becomes the first African national team ever to reach the semifinals of the World Cup! The 1-0 draw against Portugal once again exalted the defensive phase of Regragui’s formation, capable of resisting even the Portugal forwards with only one great save by Bounou.

✅ Stats before the game. There are 11 previous meetings in the knockout phase of the World Cup between African and European teams, nine of which the European team won. The only two exceptions to this run are Senegal’s 2-1 extra-time win against Sweden in 2002 (round of 16) and Morocco’s shoot-out win against Spain in the previous round of this season. Morocco could become the first African team to qualify for the semifinals of a World Cup tournament. All of the previous three African teams that reached the quarter-finals were eliminated: Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010. This will be Portugal’s third World Cup quarter-final; the Portuguese have qualified in each of the previous two: 5-3 over North Korea in 1966 and 3-1 on penalties against England in 2006. Portugal also scored as many goals in their last game against Switzerland as in their previous games eight matches in the knockout stages of the World Cup (six).
🏆 👉 Lineup MOROCCO (4-3-3): Bounou; Hakimi, El-Yamiq, Saiss, Attiallah; Ounahi, Amrabat, Amallah; Ziyech, En-Nesyri, Boufal.
🏆 👉 Lineup PORTUGAL (4-3-3): Diogo Costa; Dalot, Pepe, Ruben Dias, Guerreiro; Bernardo Silva, Ruben Neves, Otavio; Bruno Fernandes, Gonçalo Ramos, João Félix.
