FIFA PRESIDENT SEPP BLATTER’S TOUCHING TRIBUTE TO ANGELO ANQUILLETTI

MILAN – Casa Milan received a letter from FIFA headed by the President Joseph S. Blatter. This is what the President wrote:

Dear Mr. Galliani and dearest Anquilletti family.

FIFA and the whole of the football world are with the Anquilletti family after the death of Angelo, legendary Milan defender from 1966 to 1977.

I remember that he was a defender with great qualities. His nickname, “L’Anguilla rossonera” (the red and black eel), says it all about how much he was loved by the Milan fans.

In 11 years with Milan he won everything: 1 Scudetto, 1 European Cup, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 2 Cup Winners’ Cups and 4 Italian Cups making 418 appearances from competitive matches. In 1968 he was a member of the Italy squad that won the Euros. He made his debut for Italy in a tour to Mexico, in January 1969, ahead of the World Cup in 1970. 2 fixtures against the Mexican national side that saw him both times play, his only 2 appearances with Italy.

His passing away represents a great loss for Italian football. My condolences on behalf of world football and mine personally and my thoughts to the family.

Joseph S. Blatter
