AC MILAN – GIACOMO BONAVENTURA: I WANT TO HELP THE TEAM

MILAN – Giacomo Bonaventura spoke exclusively to Milan Channel about his progress as a player and about his goals for the future. He said:

“I am definitely pleased with my goals and assist because it means I have made an important contribution to the team but the season is a long one and I can still do more. I have to concentrate on the future because I still want to help my teammates. It doesn’t really matter how many goals or assists I manage, I just want to do my best so that I can help the team and my teammates. Having said that, I am happy with the way I have started the season.”

“Even last season I changed positions a lot and I think that that is a good thing for a footballer, because it means the coach has a lot of confidence in you. If there are some injuries then it makes me proud to know that the coach looks to me to step in. Or when we have all been fit, I have nearly always played, that means I am important to this team. I am satisfied with that and frankly my position on the pitch isn’t that important. There is a lot of movement in midfield and we all get to do everything, the important thing is to know what to do when we play.”

“Every season has its own story. Last season when we faced Napoli we were in really good shape both individually but also as a team. It was hard for them to come here and win. We played a great game, let’s hope we repeat that performance this year as well, we want to do well against Napoli in front of our fans. So far there isn’t a runaway leader in the table, all teams have shown some good things but have also got some games wrong. We have to believe in ourselves and keep going and address the problems that have come up in the last few weeks. The league is wide open, there is still a lot of football to be played and we have a squad and a coach that can take us very far.”

“This year there are the Euros, a really important competition. I am very motivated to do well with Milan in order to try and convince Conte that I deserve a place in the squad.  Playing for Italy is such a great thing, a unique feeling. To wear that shirt, for an Italian player, is as good as it gets. We are lucky enough to have a coach like Conte, one of the best in Europe. I think we can achieve really good things with him, and we all want to prove everyone wrong. We have to restore the Italy’s reputation. The coach is quality, the squad has some goos players and I am sure Italy will do well.”

“Today we start preparing for the Napoli match and we will do everything in our power to win the game.  Today I also wanted to wish our president, Silvio Berlusconi, happy birthday, he has been president for 30 years. He has given so much to Italian football, to this club, making Milan the most successful club in the world. I hope he wins many more trophies and is satisfied for years to come. He has written the history books of football and I think he will continue to do so. Happy Birthday President!”
