It’s official. AS Roma have sacked coach José Mourinho on Tuesday 16 January 2024. Mourinho announcement came after losing the Serien A Week 20 game against  AC Milan on Sunday 14 January in San Siro Stadium. (Milan 3 – 1 Roma). Roma are down in the 9th position with only 29 points compared to Inter in the 1st position with 51 points.  By the way, Mourinho was not even on the bench during the game because e was suspeded and had to watch from the stands.   For the moment, the Club has appointed the former Roma player Daniede De Rossi as the new coach until the end  of the season (June 30, 2024).

Roma fans were just wondering what was happening to the team doing so poorly.  Roma was also out of the Coppa Italia after being eliminated by Lazio.   Simply put, Roma have won only 8 games , 5 draws, and 7 lost.  It seems the mission is now to get back to the winning path and try to make a comeback to climb towards the European qualification.

In a statement, AS Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin commented: “We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club.”

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.’

Mourinho joined Roma in May 2021 and spent two-and-a-half years. Mourinho led Roma to the Europa Conference League title in 2022 when they beat Feyenoord. This was the club’s first European trophy since 1961. Another accomplishment was tuiding Roma to the Europa League final last season, sadly they were defeated by Sevilla on penalties.
