75% Ball Possession SPAIN and 25% Ball Possession RUSSIA
Spain 1 – 1 Russia

The unthinkable happened! Spain is eliminated in penalties and Russia passed to the Quarterfinals. Russia defeated Spain in the Round of 16 game on Sunday 1 July 2018 at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia. A total failure, a big flop for Spain, a former World Cup Champion! Russia did not waste their chance, and Spain maybe relying too much on their history.
Here is the situation. Spain took the lead thanks to Sergei Ignashevish’s own goal in the 12th minute after attempting to stop the shot by Sergio Ramos. Russia equalized in the 41st minute with Artem Dzyuba defeating Spain goalkeeper De Gea. Regular time ended with the 1-1 and 2 extra time were played. The draw could not be broken and penalties were the final decision. Hero of the game is Russia goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev saving two penalties denying Koke and Iago Aspas’s penalties. A magic foot, yep, Akinfeev saved the last penalty with his foot!
