🏆👉    England won the UEFA EURO Semifinal defeating Netherlands on Wednesday 10 July 2024 at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany. England got their pass to the Final thanks to the winner goal in extremis, 91st minute, scored by Ollie Watkins.  The final will be played on Sunday 14 July.

England reached their second consecutive European Championship final. The Netherlands took the lead after just seven minutes with a great goal from Simons, but England did not falter and found the equalizer with Kane from a penalty and, during the first half, created two potential scoring opportunities with Foden. In the second half, the pace was slower and chances struggled to arrive, with both teams slow in turning the ball over. Just when the 90th minute was about to start, Palmer serves Watkins deep who controls it and with his right foot manages to beat an innocent Verbruggen to the far post. The Aston Villa striker’s goal is the last emotion of a hard-fought match which in the end saw the team he created most prevail over the course of the 90 minutes.

This is the fourth meeting between England and Holland in a major international tournament (World Cup/European Championship); The Netherlands won 3-1 at EURO 1988 (Marco van Basten hat-trick), a goalless draw at the 1990 World Cup, and England’s 4-1 success at EURO 1996.

Netherlands took the lead in the 7th minute. Xavi Simons defeated England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with a right footed shot to the top left corner.

England equalized in the 18th minute. Captain Harry Kane converted a penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty was conceded by Denzel Dumfries after a foul on Kane inside the penalty area.

England got the winner goal in the 91st minute. Ollie Watkins became England’s hero when he scored with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Cole Palmer.

Stats before the game: England have won just one of their last nine matches against the Netherlands in all competitions (D4 L4), a success achieved in a friendly in Amsterdam in March 2018 (1-0). This is the fourth meeting between England and Holland in a major international tournament (World Cup/European Championship); The Orange won 3-1 at EURO 1988 (Marco van Basten hat-trick), a goalless draw at the 1990 World Cup, and England’s 4-1 success at EURO 1996. Of all the nations they have faced at least 20 times in their history, only against Brazil (15%) do England have a lower win percentage than they record against the Netherlands (27% – 6W, 9N, 7L). This is England’s fourth appearance in the semi-finals of a European Championship; after being eliminated in the first two matches of this type, in 1968 (against Yugoslavia) and 1996 (against Germany), the Three Lions reached the final of the competition in the most recent one played at EURO 2020 (2-1 v Denmark). The Netherlands have been eliminated in four of the five semi-finals played at the European Championships, the last in chronological order at EURO 2004. The only exception, the 2-1 victory against hosts Germany in 1988, a tournament which then ended with victory of the title. England reached the final at EURO 2020 – there have been five occasions where a team has reached the final in consecutive editions of the European Championship; USSR (1960/1964), Germany (1972/1976, 1976/1980, 1992/1996) and Spain (2008/2012).
