Spain won their most important battle winning the UEFA EURO FINAL on Sunday 14 July 2024 at the Olympiastadion Stadium in Munich, Germany. Spain conquered the EURO and crowned as Champions!  With this historic triumph, Spain became the first national team in history to win four different editions of the European Championships: 1964, 2008, 2012 and 2024. Yet another bitter pill for England, who lost their second consecutive final after the one in 2021 against ‘Italy.

Surely, it was an extraordinary second half. Nico Williams converts an assist after Yamal’s kiss, then Cole Palmer puts things right again with a splendid backheel from Bellingham. And just when the match seemed headed for extra time, voila, in the 86th minute Mikel Oyarzabal came off the bench and arrived first of all on a perfect through ball from Cucurella and handed the trophy to Spain. What else to say? Congratulations Spain, you did it, you earned it, you deserved it.

This was the third match between Spain and England at the European Championships: the Three Lions won 2-1 in the 1980 group stage and went through the penalty shootout (4-2) after the 0-0 draw in the quarter-finals of 1996.

New records: Spain first team to win all 7 games in a single EURO.  Spain player Lamine Yamal, 17 years old, becomes the youngster ever male player to feature in a World Cup or Euros final. He’s surpassed Pele’s record, which was set back in the 1958 World Cup. Another record, Lamine Yamal (aged 17) and England’s Kobbie Mainoo (aged 19) both starting the #EURO2024 final, two teenagers are featuring in the final of a EURO or World Cup final for the very first time.

England did not score in three of the four European and World Cup matches against Spain, and the last two matches between the two national teams in these two tournaments both ended 0-0 (World Cup 1982, EURO 1996). Spain have won all six matches so far at EURO 2024, already a record for most successes in a single edition of the European Championships. Since the introduction of the group stage in 1980, only France in 1984 (5/5) have lifted the trophy with a 100% win rate.

🇪🇸No Serie A Players in this game

Spain took the lead in the 47th minute, just starting the second half. Nico Williams defeated England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. A fantastic assist from Lamine Yamal, the fourth in this European Championship, who opens perfectly in the area on the left for the Basque winger.

England equalized in the 73rd minute. What a decisive substitution! Imagine, Cole Palmer substituted Kobbie Mainoo in the 70th minute. Three minutes later, BANG! VOILA! Palmer equalized the score defeating Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Jude Bellingham. Definitely, this was a lethal counterattack by the English.

Spain reacted and in the 87th minute took the lead again. Mikel Oyarzabal scored with a right footed shot.

Stats before the game:  Spain have lost just four of their last 14 matches against England in all competitions (W7 D3), having recorded seven defeats in a row against the Three Lions. England won 3-2 the last time they faced Spain in the Nations League in October 2018; The Three Lions have not won two consecutive matches against La Roja since a series of seven between 1960 and 1980. Spain has won the last three European and World Cup finals: EURO 2008, EURO 2012 and the 2010 World Cup. No European national team has ever won four consecutive European and World Cup finals. This will be the fifth European Championship final for Spain: three successes (1964, 2008, 2012) and one defeat (1984). La Roja could become the first national team to win the competition four times.
England have reached the final of the European Championships in two consecutive editions. The Three Lions have in fact reached more European and World Cup finals with Gareth Southgate at the helm (two in four editions), compared to the first 23 participations combined between the World Cup/European Championships (one) before his arrival. This will be England’s first European and World Cup final played outside of England, in fact both the 1966 World Cup final and the EURO 2020 final were at Wembley. The Three Lions have never lost in Berlin in six games (W4, D2), only in Helsinki (8), Amsterdam (7) and Sunderland (7) have they played more matches in a single city without ever recording a defeat.
