Frosinone conquered a prestigious victory defeating Napoli in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 on Tuesday 19 December 2023 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, Italy. Incredible, Napoli are for the third year in a row out of the Round of 16 of the Italian Cup. Let’s give full credit to this historic result accomplished by Frosinone eliminating Italy’s Champions. The fact is that Napoli suffered a major blow, a total knockout in front of their fans. Frosinone will play in the Quarterfinals against the winner between Juventus and Salernitana.
It all happened in the second half. Frosinone broke the deadlock in the 65th minute with a corner kick taken perfectly by Garritano towards the center where Berrenechea headed it toward the far post. The second goal came in the 70th minute with Di Lorenzo making a complete mistake, sending Caso through on goal who, face to face with Gollini, made no mistake and doubled the score. Napoli collapsed completely in injury time, conceding two goals: Di Lorenzo overpowered Gelli in the area, granting a penalty to Frosinone, with Cheddira scoring centrally. In the 95th minute, the poker comes with Harroui who is served perfectly by Lirola, then beats Gollini towards the right post.

👉 Stats before the game: Frosinone is the team that Napoli has faced the most times without ever losing, considering all competitions: eight Neapolitan victories and two draws in 10 matches. Napoli have won all of their last six matches against Frosinone, considering all competitions; the Neapolitans have a longer streak of successes only against Sampdoria (nine). Napoli and Frosinone have faced each other in the Italian Cup on only one occasion so far: on 19 August 2006 the Neapolitans prevailed with a score of 3-1. After having reached the round of 16 of the Italian Cup for eight consecutive seasons, Napoli was eliminated in the most recent two, against Fiorentina and Cremonese; on both occasions the match ended in a draw in the 90 minutes (2-5 after extra time against the Viola, 6-7 after penalties against the Grigiorossi). Frosinone will play in the round of 16 of the Italian Cup for the first time in their history; the Ciociari have won their last two matches in the competition and have only achieved three consecutive successes once (August 2013).
