Amir Rrahmani: “I think I can adapt to the Napoli system”

New Napoli signing Amir Rrahmani attended the media during the press conference at the club’s pre-season training camp in Castel di Sangro on Wednesday 26 August 2020.

“I’ve joined a big club – Napoli are one of the top sides in Italy,” said the Kosovan centre-back. “I gave my all last year and had a good season. Now I’m here and I’m delighted to have the confidence of the club, who decided to sign me a while ago.

“Napoli tracked me for several months but as soon as I knew about their interest I was determined to come here. Napoli was my choice and I did everything I could to get the chance to wear the Azzurri shirt.”

Asked about his preferred position, Rrahmani stressed that his versatility can help him to settle into the side.

“I don’t have a preference [in terms of the right or left side of central defence],” he said. “I see myself as an aggressive defender who is strong in the air. Those are my main attributes. I’ve always played in a back four, but I think I can adapt to the Napoli system. I’d like to do my bit going forward and perhaps score a few goals. I know I’ve joined a great side and I hope to progress here and win something big with Napoli in the future.”

Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli was also in attendance alongside Rrahmani.

“We watched Amir in the flesh when he was at Verona and we were very impressed,” said Giuntoli. “We asked for more details and realised that he was being tracked by several teams, so we moved quickly and signed him.”
