AC Milan win the Serie A Week 6 game defeating Sampdoria on Saturday 10 September 2022 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy.  The victory helped AC Milan to continue the race toward the top position while Sampdoria remain in the relegation zone.  Milan played with 10 players since the 47th minute after Rafael Leão was sent off with a red card. At the moment Milan hooks Napoli at the top of the standings with 14 points each.  Sampdoria Coach Marco Giampaolo also got a red card in the 97th minute for protesting.

In the next round, Sampdoria will seek their first victory of the season in another delicate challenge in the “derby” against Spezia, while Milan will play the super match against Napoli in San Siro.

Sampdoria have collected only two points so far: with a defeat they would equal their worst result in the first six matches of a Serie A championship (two draws and four knockouts in the first six also in 2013/14, a season in which however the Sampdoria were saved. at the end of the tournament).

AC Milan opened the score in the 6th minute. It is Junior Messias to defeat Sampdoria goalkeeper Emil Audero with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Rafael Leão.

Referee Michael Fabbri gave a second yellow card to AC Milan forward Rafael Leão turning for the automatic red card. Milan remain with 10 players.

Sampdoria equalized for the 1-1 in the 57th minute. Filip Đuričić defeated Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan from very close range with a headed shot to the high center. The assist is by Tommaso Augello.

AC Milan took the lead again in the 67th minute. Olivier Giroud converted a penalty with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The penalty is conceded by Gonzalo Villar after a handball.

AC Milan have won four of their last five Serie A games against Sampdoria (1N), not conceding any goals in the last two: to go back to a Sampdoria success in the league against the Rossoneri, we go back to 1-0 at the Ferraris on 30 March 2019, with Giampaolo on the bench (Defrel’s goal).  Sampdoria have lost their last three Serie A home games against Milan, only once in the tournament have they recorded four consecutive home knockouts against the Rossoneri: in the period between 1963 and 1968.
Sampdoria is – like Montpellier – one of the two teams to have recorded the most defeats (16) since the beginning of 2022 in the major five European tournaments; the blucerchiati have scored just 21 goals in 24 Serie A games in this period, with an average of 0.88, the lowest considering the teams present in both the 21/22 and 22/23 Italian championships.
