AC Milan climbed the Standing after winning the Serie A Week 5 game on Saturday 23 September 2023 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. The victory is a boost to the morale of the team because they reacted after the Derby della Madonnina defeat and finding their fourth win in five games with 12 points. Hellas Verona returned home with zero points from the trip to Milan and interrupted their good start to the season.

The starting line-up chosen by Pioli is convincing. An excellent goalkeeper Marco Sportiello denied Verona’s goal on several occasions, especially in the first half from a header by Folorunsho very close to the goal. Above all, Leao also convinces with the captain’s armband, scoring his third consecutive goal in three championship games. At the end the Rossoneri were close to doubling their lead first with Christian Pulisic and then with Musah.

Milan will return to the pitch on Wednesday to meet Cagliari before returning to San Siro against Lazio.

✅   Stats before the game: Milan have won all of their last five league matches against Verona, always scoring at least two goals: this is already the best consecutive winning streak for the Rossoneri against the Venetians in Serie A. Among the teams against which Milan have never lost in home Serie A matches, Verona is the one against which the Rossoneri have played the most matches: 31 matches, in which 18 victories and 13 draws have been achieved. The last Venetian club capable of winning at the Meazza against Milan in Serie A was Vicenza on 28 September 1997: 0-1 for Francesco Guidolin’s team against Fabio Capello’s, thanks to Arturo Di Napoli’s goal. Milan lost their last league match against Inter and have not collected two defeats in a row in Serie A since the beginning of February 2023 (a series of three in that case): the Rossoneri have also conceded at least one goal in all of their last three matches played in the competition and have not reached four games in a row without clean sheets since February 2023 (series of seven in that case). This is one of the best starts in Hellas’ history: in the era of three points for a win, in fact, only on two other occasions had Verona collected at least seven points in the first four matches of a Serie A championship: eight in 2014/ 15 and seven in 2020/21.
