Cagliari keeping the dream for salvation after winning the Serie A Week 33 defeating Sassuolo on Saturday 16 April 2022 at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, Italy.  Cagliari reached 28 points are only +6 points above Genoa 22 points.  A valuable home victory claiming all 3 points after 5 consecutive defeats.  Cagliari did not win since the 1-2 at Turin on February 27th. The victory against Sassuolo was missing from the rossoblu from 24 January 2015.

In the next round, Cagliari is expected by the very important direct clash against Genoa at the Marassi Stadium, which knows so much about a play-off so as not to relegate. Sassuolo, on the other hand, will host Juventus on their field.

Third direct clash of the season between the two teams. The first leg played in Emilia ended 2-2, while on January 19th in the Coppa Italia Sassuolo won  1-0. In the league, the two teams try to dispel the x sign that characterized the last 5 league matches between the two rivals. Sassuolo are a real black beast of Cagliari, who have not beaten the Emilians since 2-1 on 24 January 2015, the only victory for Cagliari since the Emilians arrived in Serie A.

Cagliari opened the score in the 42nd minute. It is Alessandro Deiola to defeat Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli from very close range with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Razvan Marin.  This is Deiola’s 4th goal of the season.

Stats before the game.  Cagliari and Sassuolo have drawn each of their last 5 league games.   Cagliari have lost each of their last five league games; the last time they went on a longer such streak was in January 2021 (six) under Coach Eusebio Di Francesco. Walter Mazzarri, on the other hand, has lost five matches in a row for the first time in his career as a Serie A manager.
