Atalanta caused an upset by defeating Torino in the Serie A Week 32 game on Saturday 29 April 2023 at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium in Turin, Italy.   Atalanta in a full Champions League run reached 55 points, two points off fourth place. The draw between Rome and Milan still leaves everything open for Atalanta who can now dream of overtaking and qualifying for the top European competition. Meanwhile, with today’s victory in Turin, Gasp’s team momentarily surpasses Inter, engaged tomorrow in the home match against Lazio. Torino lost the opportunity to catch up with Monza and Bologna, currently two points ahead. Juric’s team hadn’t lost since 8 April, from the home match against Roma.

Atalanta need victories to be able to hope for qualification in the Champions League and will try to do so in the next round. Midweek commitment for Serie A: Gasp’s team will face Spezia, on the same day Torino will also be engaged in Marassi against Sampdoria.

Davide Zappacosta opened the score by defeating Torino goalkeeper with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Giorgio Scalvini.

Torino equalized for the 1-1 in the 75th minute. Antonio Sanabria level the score with a right-footed shot to the center.

Atalanta took the lead again in the 88th minute. Colombian forward Duván Zapata scored with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Davide Zappacosta.

✅   Stats before the game: After winning two games in a row against Atalanta in 2019, Torino have lost four of their last six games against the nerazzurri in Serie A (D2); for the granata there are as many defeats as in the previous 19 matches against the Bergamo players (10W, 5D). Atalanta have won their last three Serie A away games against Turin; in the competition the Bergamo players have a longer open streak of away victories only against Cagliari (four). Torino have failed to score more than one goal in their last five league games and in Serie A they haven’t gone more games without at least two goals since October 2022 (seven in that case). Torino have picked up just one point in their last three Serie A home games and have not gone more home games in a row without a win since April 2022 (D3, L2). Atalanta have won three of their last five Serie A matches (D1, L1), as many successes as those obtained in the previous nine matches played in the top flight (D2, L4).
