AC Milan and Empoli ended the Serie A Week 29 game with a goalless draw on Friday 7 April 2023 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. With today’s draw, the situation in the standings of the two sides does not change, as they leave the Meazza with one more point each. Men of Pioli and Zanetti who will be engaged in the 30th matchday respectively away, guests of Bologna, and at the Stadio Zini against Cremonese.
After an opaque first half, Milan led an asphyxiating pressure against Empoli players, forcing the Azzurri to set up a defensive recovery and restarts. The real buzz of the match came in the 77th minute, with substitute Florenzi hitting Perisan’s goal on the fly, but the full-back denied the full-back the joy of scoring; in the 89th minute, another thrill for Empoli, with Olivier Giroud signing the 1-0 goal, promptly canceled by the VAR room for a touch of the French center forward himself.
The first leg of this season, dating back to 01 October 2022, saw the Rossoneri triumph 1-3 at the Castellani Stadium. Today, the teams arrive at the Meazza separated by different points in the standings; third place is held by Mister Pioli’s formation, defending a haul of 51 points, which comes from a large victory within the walls of Diego Armando Maradona (0-4 against leaders Napoli); last day that sees the triumph also for Mister Zanetti’s men, who with a precious 1-0 trimmed against Lecce occupy the 14th position, fixed at 31 points.
✅ Stats before the game: Milan have won their last four Serie A matches against Empoli and have never achieved five consecutive victories against the Tuscans in the top division (including four between 2003 and 2006, with Carlo Ancelotti on the bench). Empoli have won three of the 29 Serie A matches played against Milan, all three at the Meazza in Milan – the last of these dates back to 23 April 2017, in the challenge on the bench between Giovanni Martusciello and Vincenzo Montella.
