Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Inter, 2nd position with 51 points and a positive goal difference of +39
Fiorentina, 5th position with 34 points and a positive goal difference of +8

Inter took back the first position after winning the Serie A Week 22 game against Fiorentina on Sunday 28 January 2024 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy.  Inter reached 54 points followed by Juventus with 53 points in the second position.  Two matches without a win for a Fiorentina team that hasn’t won here at the Franchi since 29 December.

Inter are now motivated to face the direct clash next Sunday with Juventus as leaders in seven days despite one game less. The Nerazzurri have never lost away this season, the only knockout being the one at the hands of Sassuolo last September 26th at San Siro remains.

Inter won the first four matches played in 2024 (two in the league and two in the Super Cup): they had not started a calendar year with four wins in the first four matches since 2017 (with Stefano Pioli on the bench), when they reached five.

Inter opened the score in the 14th minute. The one and only “El Toro” Lautaro Martínez defeated Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano with a headed shot to the high center. The assist is by Kristjan Asllani with a cross following a corner conceded by Davide Faraoni.

✅     Stats before the game: Only against Milan (56), have Inter drawn more matches in Serie A than against Fiorentina (55) – 71 Nerazzurri victories and 45 Viola victories in 171 matches in the tournament complete the balance. Fiorentina have won only one of the last 13 matches against Inter in Serie A (5N, 7P): 1-0 at the Meazza on 1 April 2023, thanks to a goal from Giacomo Bonaventura; dry in the first leg (0-4), the Viola have not gone without scoring in two matches in a row against the Nerazzurri in Serie A since the 2011/12 season (0-2 and 0-0), with Delio Rossi at the helm. Inter have remained unbeaten in their last six away games against Fiorentina in Serie A: three draws which were followed by three wins; the Nerazzurri have never won four away matches in a row against the Viola in the top division. Fiorentina have not found the net in three of the last four matches played in all competitions (one of which lasted 120 minutes, against Bologna in the Italian Cup), as many matches without scoring as in the previous 14 played by the Viola. Inter have gained at least 51 points after 20 matches of the season for only the second time in their history in Serie A, the first in 2006/07 (54 in that case) – in that season the Nerazzurri also won their 21st championship match .

👉 Lineup Fiorentina (4-2-3-1): Terracciano; Faraoni, Martinez Quarta, Ranieri, Parisi; Arthur, Duncan; Ikone, Bonaventura, Nzola; Beltran.

👉 Lineup Inter (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni; Darmian, Frattesi, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Thuram, Lautaro.
