The salvation mission is on for Salernitana failing to win the Serie A Week 21 on Sunday 21 January 2024 at the Arechi Stadium in Salerno, Italy. Three golden points for Genoa who overturned a Salernitana team who had actually played a good match especially in the first half. Mateo Retegui responds to Martegani’s quick opener. In the second half, it is the usual Albert Gudmundsson who completes the comeback by converting the penalty awarded by Orsato for Lovato’s handball. Sixth consecutive useful result for Genoa, who won a direct clash of fundamental importance

✅  Stats before the game.  Great balance in the five matches between Salernitana and Genoa in Serie A: two successes for each side and a draw. The first leg match last October 27th between the two teams was won by Grifone, 1-0, thanks to a goal by Albert Gudmundsson. Salernitana won both home matches against Genoa in Serie A (9 November 1947 and 2 October 2021); only against Lazio and Sampdoria have the Campanians achieved more home successes in the top division (three against both). Genoa are unbeaten in five league games (1W, 4D); in the period (since mid-December), only Inter, Juventus and Milan have not suffered any defeat like the Grifone. Salernitana have won only one of their last 10 matches at Arechi in this Serie A (4N, 5L) – 2-1 against Lazio last November 25 – and have conceded 20 goals in the period: a negative record in home matches in the championship in course. Salernitana occupies last place in the standings with only 12 points, the result of two wins and six draws (12P); in the era of three points for a win, only two teams survived with 12 or fewer points collected after the first 20 Serie A matches of the season: the Granata team in 2021/22 (11 points at this point of the tournament) and the Crotone in 2016/17 (10).
