Frosinone overturned the result and won the Serie A Week 21 at the Benito Stirpe Stadium in Frosinone, Italy. A well-deserved turnaround for Frosinone, which rises to 22 points and is back to breathing a bit after being entangled in the fight for salvation. Cagliari, however, continues to fail to find success away from home, suffering their eighth knockout. in 11 matches played outside Sardinia.

Cagliari was unbeaten against Frosinone in Serie A in the three previous matches (two wins, one draw) and, in the first leg, the rossoblù became the first team in the history of Serie A capable of winning a match with a three-goal deficit in the 70th minute, going from 1-3 to the final 4-3 with Leonardo Pavoletti’s decisive brace in full injury time (94′ and 96′)

In the next round, Frosinone will visit Hellas Verona for another direct clash with a view to survival. Cagliari will host Torino.

Cagliari opened the score in the 27th minute.

Frosinone equalized in the 64th minute. Luca Mazzitelli defeated Cagliari goalkeeper with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Abdou Harroui following a corner conceded by Gabriele Zappa.

Frosinone overturning the result and took the lead in the 76th minute. Matías Soulé scored with a left-footed free kick shot to the top right corner.

Cagliari succumbed. Frosinone sealed the victory in the 95th minute. Kaio Jorge scored from very close range with a left footed shot.

✅    Stats before the game: Cagliari is unbeaten against Frosinone in Serie A (W2, D1), only against Crotone (six), Salernitana (five) and Ternana (four) have they played more matches without ever losing in the top division. In the first leg match last October 29th against Frosinone, Cagliari became the first team in the history of Serie A capable of winning a match with a three-goal deficit in the 70th minute of play (final score 4-3). Frosinone have lost their last five league matches, conceding 15 goals in the period – only once in Serie A have the Ciociari recorded more defeats in a row: six between September and October 2018, in a period in which they conceded 17 goals with Moreno Longo driving.
In the three matches of this championship between two newly promoted teams, the host team has always won, after in the previous 13 matches the home team had only achieved success once. Two of Cagliari’s four victories in the 2023/24 Serie A came against newly promoted teams. Cagliari have remained unbeaten in their last three league matches (W1, D2), the Sardinians have not recorded a longer streak without defeat in Serie A since the period between January and February 2022 (five in that case).
