👉 Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Empoli, 19th position with 13 points and a negative goal difference of -24
Monza, 11th position with 25 points and a negative goal difference of -5
Empoli won in grand style the A Week 21 game on Sunday 21 January 2024 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. Debut to remember for Davide Nicola on the Empoli bench. The Tuscans prevailed with a clear 3-0 over Monza and once again began to glimpse more than one possibility of survival thanks to what, for the Tuscans, was only the second home victory of this championship, the fourth overall. A day to remember also for Simon Zurwkoski, author of the hat-trick that characterized the match. Monza, however, failed to react and returned home after conceding 10 goals in the last three championship matches. Palladino will have his work cut out for him to reverse the trend.
Empoli rises to 16 points in the standings, one less than third from last Hellas Verona and two less than the duo formed by Cagliari and Udinese. Monza, on the other hand, remains anchored at 25 points, the margin on the relegation zone remains large but the only four points scored in the last six matches cannot leave the team from Brianza calm.
1 – Szymon Zurkowski has become today:
▶️The 1st Polish player 🇵🇱 to score a hat-trick in Serie A.
▶️The 1st player to score at least three goals in a Serie A match for Empoli since Nicola Pozzi against Cagliari in 2007 (four goals).

Two teams eager to get a result compete, the hosts, after the change on the bench which led Nicola to replace Andreazzoli, are looking for a victory that has been missing since November 12th at Napoli, while the guests have instead scored only four points in the last five championship races and must try to reverse course to remain in calm waters.
Empoli opened the score in the 13th minute. Szymon Zurkowski defeated Monza goalkeeper Alessandro Sorrentino with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Stats before the game: Monza won two of the three matches against Empoli in Serie A (1P), the Tuscans could in fact become the first team against which the Brianza team achieve three successes in the top division. In the three matches between Empoli and Monza in Serie A, the host team has always won: 1-0 for the Tuscans on 15 October 2022 at Castellani, 2-1 on 4 March 2023 and 2-0 last 26 August at U-Power Stadium in favor of the Brianza. Empoli have never lost in the last six games played at home against Monza between Serie A, Serie B and Serie C: five victories for the Tuscans and a draw, with four ‘clean sheets’ in the partial, including the two most recent. Only Clermont (four) have scored fewer goals than Empoli (five in 10 games) in home games this season in Europe’s top five leagues. Empoli have only collected 13 points in this championship, the result of three wins and four draws (13P): this is the worst performance recorded by the Tuscan team after the first 20 seasonal matches of a major tournament.
