Hellas Verona won the Serie A Week 2 game defeating AS Roma on Saturday 26 August 2023 at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy.  Verona with full 6 points goes together with Milan, Roma remained with just 1 point.

A tough battle ending after 104 minutes sees Verona repeating the victory of the first day. Ondrej Duda opens the scoring at the start, Cyril Ngonge then doubles up on the counterattack, in the second half the new signing Houssem Aouar shortens, but despite the final pressing and the numerical superiority, due to the direct expulsion of Hien, the Giallorossi are unable to find the goal tie.

In the next round, before the break, Hellas Verona will visit Sassuolo, the Giallorossi will host AC Milan.

The party started in the 4th minute for Hellas Verona! Ondrej Duda opened the score defeating AS Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio from very close range with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner.

Houssem Aouar making his debut with AS Roma in Serie A scoring his first goal! In the 56th minute, Aouar shortened the distance from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom right corner.

✅    Stats before the game: Verona have lost 33 of their 64 Serie A matches against Roma (W11, D20), only against Inter (39) and Juventus (36) have they suffered more defeats in the competition. Verona have lost three of their last five Serie A home games against Roma (W2), as many defeats as in their previous 10 home games against the Giallorossi in the tournament (W1, D6). Verona have won their first game of this championship, only twice in their history in Serie A have they achieved two successes in the first two games of the season: in 1984/85 and in 2020/21 – in the latter case the first victory came precisely against Roma (3-0 at the table). Verona drew in their last home league game (1-1 against Empoli last May) and have not had two home draws in a row in Serie A since May 2021 (three in that case). Roma drew in their first match of Serie A 2023/24 (2-2 against Salernitana); in the previous two championships with José Mourinho, the Giallorossi had always won in the first two games of the season (W4). Roma have not achieved a single win in their last four Serie A away games (D2, L2) and have done no worse since March-May 2021, i.e. the last seven away games under Paulo Fonseca in the tournament (D2, L5) .
