Genoa and Juventus ended the Serie A Week 16 game with a draw on Friday 15 December 2023 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy. Juventus therefore failed to overtake Inter, remaining in second place. Genoa took a further point away from the relegation zone, now putting Empoli and Udinese six behind.

A goal in each half divides the spoils of the match between Genoa and Juventus. In the 28th minute, Chiesa converted a penalty.  At the start of the second half, the equalizer came immediately, with the newly introduced Ekuban serving Gudmundsson in front of the goalkeeper, with the Icelandic beating Szczesny with a split.

Juventus took the lead in the 28th minute. Federico Chiesa converted a penalty defeating Genoa goalkeeper Josep Martínez with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty was conceded by Josep Martínez after a foul on Chiesa.

Genoa equalized in the 48th minute. Albert Gudmundsson defeated Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The headed assist is by Caleb Ekuban.

Stats before the game: After a streak of five defeats in a row against Juventus in Serie A, Genoa won their last match against the Bianconeri in the league (2-1 on 6 May 2022) – the Grifone did not achieve two consecutive successes against the Vecchia Signora in Serie A since 1991 (three in that case, with Osvaldo Bagnoli as coach). No draw in the last 10 matches at the Ferraris between Genoa and Juventus in Serie A: four rossoblù victories and six bianconeri successes (31 goals overall in the period, 3.1 on average per match) – the last “X” sign at Grifone’s home in the tournament it dates back to March 11, 2012 (0-0 in that case). Genoa remained unbeaten in five of the last six home league games (W3, D2), obtaining seven points in the last three games at Ferraris; the only home defeat in the period came against Milan on 7 October (0-1). Juventus have earned 36 points in 15 games and if successful in this match they would rise to 39, already more than the points obtained in the entire first round of last season’s Serie A (38 in 19 games). With the victory against Napoli, Massimiliano Allegri equaled Carlo Ancelotti in 1st place among the coaches who have recorded the most successes in Serie A with a score of 1-0 in the era of three points for a win (75 for both).
