Atalanta overturned the result and won the Serie A Week 16 game on Monday 18 December 2023 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy. Eighth success of the season in Serie A for the Nerazzurri, who overtook Roma (25 points) and rise to seventh place in the standings with 26 points, giving continuity to last Saturday’s 3-2 against AC Milan. Salernitana, however, remain in last place in the standings and is now five points away from safety. It’s chaos for Salernitana and they need to start asking for a miracle to survive.

Salernitana opened the score in the 10th minute. Lorenzo Pirola defeated Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Antonio Candreva.

Atalanta equalized in the 47th minute. Colombian forward Luis Muriel defeated Salernitana goalkeeper Benoit Costil with a right-footed shot to the top left corner following a corner conceded by Pasquale Mazzocchi.

It seems Atalanta returned inspired in this second half. In the 52nd minute, Atalanta took the lead with the goal by Mario Pašalić

This is just chaos for Salernitana conceding another goal in the 83rd minute. Charles De Ketelaere scored with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Giorgio Scalvini.

✅   Stats before the game: Salernitana beat Atalanta in their last Serie A match (1-0 on 13 May 2023 with a goal from Candreva in the 93rd minute), after having collected three draws and two defeats in the first five matches in the competition against the Bergamo side. The match in Bergamo last championship (15 January 2023) between Atalanta and Salernitana ended 8-2 for the Dea: the only time in a Serie A match in which the Bergamo players scored at least eight goals. Atalanta returned to winning ways against Milan, after a series of four league matches in which they had collected just one point (1D, 3L): on the last two occasions in this Serie A in which they interrupted one or more negative results with a victory, he then found success in the following match too. No team has collected fewer away points than Salernitana in this championship (two in seven matches) and none have scored fewer goals than Campania so far (only four). Salernitana have collected only eight points so far: only three teams in the three points per win era survived at the end of the season despite scoring eight or fewer points in the first 15 games of a Serie A tournament (Verona 22/23, Salernitana 21 /22 and Crotone 16/17).
