Spezia win the Serie A Week 1 game  at the Alberto Picco Stadium on Sunday 14 August 2022 in Spezia, Italy.  Spezia have never won on their season debut in Serie A: defeat against Sassuolo in 2020 and a draw against Cagliari in 2021. Spezia, breaking the tabu and win their first seasonal debut claiming full 3 points.

In the next round, Spezia will go to San Siro play against Inter, while Empoli will play at home in the Tuscan derby against Fiorentina.

Spezia opened the score in the 36th minute. It is M’Bala Nzola to defeat Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a right footed shot to the center. The assist is by Simone Bastoni.

Spezia and Empoli have met twice in Serie A, drawing both matches of last season: 1-1 at the Peak on December 19, 2021 and 0-0 at Castellani on April 9.  Empoli are the team that has played the most Serie A championships (14), without ever drawing the opening match of the season: four wins and 10 defeats for the Tuscans.
