Torino  won the Serie A Week 2 game on Sunday 25 August 2024 at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium in Turin, Italy.  Torino celebrates their first victory in the championship, handing Atalanta their initial defeat. It was an exciting match where Mateo Retegui scored first, followed by a comeback featuring goals from Ilic-Adams and Milinkovic-Savic, who heroically saved Pasalic’s penalty in the dying moments of the game.

The action unfolded at the Olimpico Grande Torino, where the Nerazzurri struck the woodwork twice with efforts from Retegui and De Ketelaere, but ultimately succumbed to the Granata. In the league standings, Vanoli’s squad now has 4 points, while Gasperini’s team remains at 3 points.

Looking ahead, the next fixtures include Venezia vs. Torino and Atalanta vs. Inter. That wraps up our live coverage of Torino vs. Atalanta; enjoy the rest of your evening!

Previously, Atalanta has managed to stay unbeaten in eight out of their last nine Serie A matches against Torino, with six wins and two draws. The only victory for Torino during this stretch was in the first leg of last season, where they triumphed 3-0 on December 4, 2023. Stats changed today with Torino grabbing this victory.

The beginning…

In the 36th minute, Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui netted a goal with a powerful header from the middle of the box, sending the ball into the top left corner. The assist came from Davide Zappacosta.

Torino equalized in the 31sst minute. Ivan Ilic scored the equalizer with a left-footed shot from the middle of the box, sending the ball straight to the center of the goal. The assist came from Ché Adams.

Torino took the lead again in the 50th minute, thanks to Ché Adams, who scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the box that curled into the bottom left corner.

✅   Stats before the game:

Atalanta have scored 61 goals in 55 away games against Torino in Serie A (W10 D18 L27), seven of which in a single match (the biggest win for the Goddess in their history in the tournament – 7-0 on 25 January 2020); only against Lazio (62) have the Bergamo team scored more away goals in the top flight.

After the 2-2 draw against Milan, Torino could draw both of their first two Serie A games of the season for the second time in the three points for a win era – the previous one in 2007/08 (two 2-2 draws against Lazio and Reggina in that case, with Walter Novellino at the helm).

Torino have remained unbeaten in 13 of their last 14 home Serie A games (7W, 6D), recording 10 clean sheets in the period and losing only against Lazio, last February 22 (0-2). Considering the last 14 seasons played in Serie A, only once has Atalanta managed to win both of their first two seasonal games in the top flight: in 2020/21, victories against Lazio and Torino.

Between this championship and the end of the previous one, Atalanta have won four times in a row away from home: they have not reached five consecutive away wins in Serie A since the streak of six between October and December 2021.  Starting from last season (from 2023/24), Torino are the team that have recorded the most clean sheets at home in the top five European leagues (13 in 19 games). Furthermore, excluding the newly promoted teams, no team has conceded fewer goals in home games than the Granata in the period: nine, like Real Madrid.
