What a blow at the Olimpico. Roma collapsing and punished by Sassuolo forward Simone Zaza scoring 2 goals. This draw means a step back for the Roman gladiators. Here is the situation. Why? Roma should have defeated Sassuolo to have only 1 point difference with Juventus because they got a 0-0 draw with Fiorentina. Juventus have now 35 points. Roma barely managed to draw the match after being 0-2.
A cold shower in the Olimpico in the 15th minute. It is Sassuolo forward Simone Zaza to smack the first goal of the game defeating AS Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis from close range with a left footed shot in the top left corner. It’s the third goal this season for Zaza.
Say what? And what is happening to the Roman gladiators? Far from Roma reacting, it is Sassuolo to increase the score. Again, the verdugo is foward Zaza defeating goalkeeper De Sanctis with a right footed shot in the center. The assist is by midfielder Simone Missiroli. Party time for Sassuolo fans while gesture of frustration among Roma players. It’s the fourth goal this season now for Zaza.
Things complicating for Roma. In the 50th minute, Referee Irrati gives a red card to midfielder Daniele De Rossi for collecting 2 yellow cards.
Roma shortening the distance in the 78th minute. Referee Irrati giving a penalty to Roma. It is forward Adem Ljajic to convert the penalty with a right footed shot. It’s the 5th goal this season for Ljajic. Penalty conceded by Sassuolo defender Sime Vrsaljko after a handball in the penalty area and Irrati gives him a yellow card.
Sassuolo coach Eusebio Di Francesco giving resting time to forward Simone Zaza in the 85th minute by replacing him with forward Sergio Floccari.
Game ending with Sassuolo also having 10 players because Referee Irrati gives a red card to defender Sime Vrsaljko for a second yellow card in the 90th minute.
Sassuolo highly motivated considering they have won their last 3 games this season. Surely, this victory at the Olimpico is a prestigious one for Sassuolo. Precedents at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium is only 1 ending with a draw. Sassuolo has been been almost like a bad luck for Roma. Sassuolo put an end to the 10 consecutive victories of the Roman gladiators with that 1-1 draw with the own goal by Longhi and the goal by forward Domenico Berardi.
