✅    Venezuela conquered an important victory winning the Copa America Group Stage Group B Matchday 2 against on Wednesday 26 June 2024 at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California.  Incredible, Venezuela fans are celebrating not only they proved they could beat Mexico, but a team considered the underdog ranked #54 by FIFA beat Mexico ranked in the #15.

Venezuela are leading Group B with six points and will be moving on to the quarterfinals after its match Sunday against Jamaica. Ecuador is currently second in the group with three points after their win against Jamaica 3-1. Mexico needs a win on Sunday against Ecuador to move into second and into the quarterfinals.

Venezuela took the lead in the 57th minute. Salomón Rondón converted a penalty defeating Mexico goalkeeper Julio González with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty was conceded by Julián Quiñones after a foul in the penalty area on Jon Aramburu. Ironically, Salomón plays for the Mexican League (Pachuca).

Mexico had a chance to level the score. In the 87th minute, Venezuela goalkeeper Rafael Romo saved a penalty denying Orbelín Pineda to shout a goal. The penalty was conceded by Miguel Navarro after a hand ball in the penalty area.
