Napoli hosted newly-promoted Venezia in their first game of the 2021/22 Serie A season on Sunday 22 August 2021 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Napoli, Italy.  Napoli defeat a brave Venezia returning to the Serie A after a 19-year absence.  We might argue this is not a bad test for Venezia because Napoli needed 60 minutes to open the score.  Venezia got a taste of playing in the big league against one of the bests teams.

Napoli looking for redemption after failing to qualify last season for the UEFA Champions League football ending in the 5th position with 77 points just one point below Juventus in the 4th position with 78 points. Overall, it was a good debut of New Napoli Coach Luciano Spalletti.

  • Napoli looking for the perfect start, having the unbeaten record in season openers since 2015 with 4 wins and 1 draw. Napoli vs Venezia Head-to-head. These two teams last locked horns in the 2003/04 Serie B season. For Venezia, a draw or a victory will represent a super boost. This will be their fifth head to head encounter and Napoli are still searching for their maiden victory over Venezia. Three of the last four games ended in draws.

Napoli under pressure. In the 23rd minute, Referee Aureliano giving a straight red card to Victor Osimhen for violent conduct. Napoli remaining with 10 players.

Far from calming down. Referee Aureliano booking Napoli Coach Luciano Spalletti!!!

Napoli taking the lead in the 62nd minute. It is forward Lorenzo Insigne to convert a penalty defeating Venezia goalkeeper with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty is conceded by Pietro Ceccaroni after a handball.
