🏆 👉 AC Milan failed to win the Champions League Group Stage Group E Matchday 3 game against Chelsea to keep the first position on Wednesday 5 October 2022 at Stamford Bridge in London, England. Milan remain with 4 points while Chelsea from 1 point reached 4 points with this victory. Sadly, it is the first defeat for Milan, the second in the season after the championship against Napoli. In the standings the two teams are now paired at four, behind Salzburg at five. The return match at San Siro is next Tuesday 11 October in San Siro.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter is only the third English manager to face AC Milan in the Champions League, after Bobby Robson with Porto in 1993/94 and Harry Redknapp with Tottenham in 2010/11 – both former bench mates remained undefeated (draw for Robson, win and draw for Redknapp).
Chelsea opened the score in the 24th minute. Wesley Fofana defeated AC Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Ruben Loftus-Cheek following a corner conceded by Fikayo Tomori.

✅ Stats before the game. The last time Chelsea and Milan met in the Champions League was in the group stage of the 1999/2000 edition; in that case, both games ended in a draw, including goalless at Stamford Bridge. Milan’s only victory against Chelsea was in February 1966 in the Fairs Cup: 2-1 at San Siro. To decide that third round was a third game (it ended 2-1 even in the return) – drawn 1-1 – in which the Blues went through, thanks to the toss of a coin. Chelsea have lost only two of their 13 home games in Europe against Italian teams (8W, 3D), both in the Champions League: 1-2 against Lazio, in March 2000, and 0-1 against Inter, in March 2010. Milan have only won one of 20 European away games to England (7D, 12L): 1-0 at Old Trafford against Manchester United, in February 2005. The Rossoneri’s only other success in that country (excluding penalties) dates back to in the 1963 European Cup final against Benfica, won 2-1 at Wembley.
👉 Lineup CHELSEA (3-4-2-1): Kepa; Fofana, Thiago Silva, Koulibaly; James, Kovačić, Loftus-Cheek, Chilwell; Mount, Sterling; Aubameyang.
👉 Lineup AC MILAN (4-2-3-1): Tătăruşanu; Dest, Kalulu, Tomori, Ballo-Touré; Bennacer, Tonali; Krunić, De Ketelaere, Leão; Giroud.
