🏆👉  Lazio with a great away win defeating FC Twente on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the FC Twente Stadion in Enschede, Netherlands.  Lazio secures the third victory in the Europa League! They triumphed over Twente with a two-goal margin.  The match was notably influenced by the red card shown to the Dutch goalkeeper just 11 minutes in. With this win, Lazio has now achieved three victories in three matches, soaring to the top of the table alongside Tottenham and Anderlecht, all with a perfect score! They’ve netted 9 goals while conceding only 1. On November 7th, Porto will be visiting the Stadio Olimpico.

Twente faced their first loss after drawing in the opening two matches of the competition. As a result, they remain stuck at 2 points and drop to 28th place. In their upcoming Europa League match, they will travel to Nice. Baroni’s team scored once in each half, with Pedro finding the net in the 35th minute and Isaksen sealing the win in the 87th minute. Lazio’s triumph was never in question, as they controlled the game for most of the 90 minutes, allowing very few chances to their opponents.

This encounter marks the first time Twente and Lazio will face each other in European competition, making the Tukkers the fifth Dutch team the Biancocelesti have competed against in these tournaments, following Feyenoord, PSV, Vitesse, and AZ.

Lazio gained the upper hand in the 35th minute when Pedro found the net with a right-footed strike from the center of the box, sending the ball into the bottom left corner. The goal was confirmed after a VAR review.

In the 88th minute, Gustav Isaksen scored with a right-footed shot straight to the center of the goal, bringing the score to 0-2. He was assisted by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru after a quick counterattack.

Lazio have lost their last three away games against Dutch opposition in European competition, all since the start of the 2022/23 season and in different tournaments: 0-1 at Feyenoord in the 2002/23 UEFA Cup; 1-2 at AZ in the 2022/23 Conference League; and 1-3 away to Feyenoord in the 2023/24 Champions League.

Twente are winless in nine games (D6 L3) in the Europa League, including both 1-1 draws this season.

Lazio have won both of their games in this season’s Europa League; only in 1993/94 (UEFA Cup) and 2017/18 (Europa League) have the Biancocelesti won their first three games in a single edition of a major European competition.  Lazio won their first away game of the season in this Europa League (3-0 against Dynamo Kyiv) and could find two away wins in a row in the major European competitions for the first time since September-October 2017, in the Europa League itself, one of which came against a Dutch team (3-2 vs Vitesse).

Twente’s only prior experience with Italian teams in the UEFA Cup/Europa League dates back to the 1974/75 semi-finals, where they triumphed over Juventus in both legs before ultimately falling to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the final.

Lazio have scored the most goals (seven) in the Europa League this season; furthermore, only Elfsborg have a higher conversion rate (33.3%) than the Biancocelesti (25.9%).
Lazio are one of the two teams that have sent more players to the table so far in the 2024/25 Europa League: five, tied with Eintracht Frankfurt. The Biancocelesti have scored with Castellanos and Dia (two goals each), Zaccagni, Pedro and Dele-Bashiru (one goal each).
