Antonio Conte's Napoli faced a shocking defeat in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 3, League Phase clash against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.  PSV team triumphed 6-2 at the Phillips Stadium in Eindhoven, Netherlands. PSV after initially falling behind to Scott McTominay's goal made a superb comeback. To make matters worse, Lorenzo Lucca was sent off for dissent, leaving his team with just ten players from the 76th minute onward.

Remarkably, on a night where 43 goals were scored, the highest ever in a single Champions League match, a new record was established in Eindhoven, albeit a negative one. Napoli were at the center of this historic event, suffering a significant 6-2 loss against PSV during the third matchday of the League Phase. This defeat marks a heavy moment in Napoli's history, as they had never allowed so many goals in European competition, according to Opta.

Indeed, this is a grim day, a sense of déjà vu. Reflecting on Napoli's Serie A performances, the last time they conceded six goals in a match was on December 21, 1997, when they lost 3-6 to Sampdoria in Serie A. Galeone was coaching the Azzurri at that time, with goals scored by Bellucci, Protti, and Rossitto. Antonio Conte also recorded a negative milestone: a team under the Salento-born coach had never before conceded six goals in a match.

This match holds special significance for Napoli forward Noa Lang, who made the switch from PSV during the summer. The 26-year-old Netherlands international netted 19 goals in 63 appearances over two seasons with the Eindhoven side.
